Fire Consultant

The FPA is looking for a full time Fire Consultant to contribute to the sustainability of the FPA through the provision of technical consultancy support to our Training and Fire & Risk Services departments. The role will include undertaking as-built/retrospective fire strategies and providing support to colleagues in our Fire & Risk Services department with undertaking fire risk assessments, fire safety consultancy projects, and compartmentation surveys on a wide range of high level and complex projects.

The nature of the role requires travel across the UK and a significant amount of time at clients’ premises. Whist attendance at the FPA’s offices in Moreton in Marsh is preferred, this role could be predominantly home based. Our significant contracts are currently based are in the southern half of England.

Skills and experience

  • Experienced fire risk assessor – preferably on an existing fire risk assessor register
  • Experience of a broad range of premises types including hotels, residential, schools, retail, manufacturing, healthcare, offices, storage, mixed use etc.
  • Good understanding of Approved Document B and BS 9999/BS 9991 – and in particular their application
  • Good understanding of building materials’ performance in fire and construction methodologies
  • Experience of developing retrospective fire strategies and, potentially, for new build/refurbishment projects – though not full fire engineered solutions
  • At least 10 years’ experience, of which 5 must have been in a fire strategy consulting/advisory capacity
  • Level 4 qualification in Fire Safety/Fire Science
  • Effective engagement with people internally and externally
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues and clients that enhances business/project performance
  • Leading by example and in a manner consistent with the organisation’s policies, goals and values
  • Delivery of projects to the required standard on time
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable

  • Level 5 qualification in Fire Engineering Design 
  • A relevant technical degree, preferably in fire engineering or a fire-related discipline.
