DSEAR and Fire Risk Assessor

The Fire Protection Association is looking for a full time DSEAR and Fire Risk Assessment Consultant to contribute to the sustainability of the FPA through the provision of technical consultancy support to DSEAR and Fire Risk Services.

The nature of the role requires regular travel across the UK to clients’ premises where the successful candidate will be carrying out DSEAR, Fire Risk Assessments and Compartmentation Surveys. This role is predominantly home based with the assessor travelling to clients’ premises on a weekly basis and report writing from home there afterwards.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Experienced DSEAR and Fire Risk Assessor – preferably on an existing fire risk assessor register
  • Broad experience of different premises which fall under the DSEAR Regulations including high risk environments/industry, chemicals sites/COMAH, gas storage, power generation, and for fire premises such as hotels, residential, schools, retail, manufacturing, offices, storage, mixed use etc.
  • Good understanding of the DSEAR Regulations, Hazardous Areas, ATEX equipment, Approved Document B and BS 9999/BS 9991 and their applications
  • Experience of writing risk assessments and be able to adapt to the standard used by the FPA.

Experience Required:

  • At least 10 years’ experience, of which 5 must have involved the responsibility for carrying out DSEAR and Fire Risk Assessments
  • Experience in Hazardous Area Classification
  • Ability to engage effectively with people internally and externally
  • A team player who can demonstrate a collaborative style of working that enhances business/project performance
  • Ability to lead by example and in a manner consistent to the organisation’s policies, goals and values
  • Ability to deliver projects to the required standard on time
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable:

  • A relevant technical degree, preferably in fire engineering or a fire-related discipline
  • DSEAR Competency, such as COMPEX modules.
