Level 4 Diploma in Fire Risk Assessment Online

This qualification provides learners with more advanced principles and concepts for carrying out fire risk assessments in all buildings (in all but the most complex buildings) as defined by UK Government’s Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the Fire Safety Act 2021, the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022, the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005, the Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006, the Fire and Rescue Services (Northern Ireland) Order 2006, and the Fire Safety Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2010. The Level 4 qualification consists of five units. Those who have already completed Level 3 within the last 12 months are only required to do two units: L43 and L45.

  • ABBE Level 4 Diploma in Fire Risk Assessment (RQF Level 4) - 603/4907/4
  • 51.5 Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM) CPD hours

Successful completion of this course entitles learners to use post nominal letters.

The FPA has been awarded Direct Claim Status (DCS) for this qualification in recognition of the quality of its processes, procedures, delivery, assessment, and learner experience. DCS allows the FPA to claim learners’ qualification certificates without having to wait for an external quality assurance audit, meaning that learners do not experience delays in receiving proof of achievement and can be confident in the service they will experience.

Qualification Structure and Aims

WL41: Fire Risk Assessment Fundamental Principles

Undertaken as a 5-day online tutor-led course, providing the underpinning framework for practical fire risk assessments including:

  • The legal framework
  • Building construction and the risks posed from fire
  • Fire growth and hazard identification
  • Fire safety in the protection of people at risk

Assessment: a written response to a series of essay-style questions within 4 weeks of undertaking the course.

L42: Health, Safety, and Security

The aim of this unit is to:

  • develop knowledge, understanding and skills to contribute to the health, safety and security of the workplace
  • demonstrate effective working relationships
  • conduct fire risk assessments in a professional and ethical manner, complying with organisational and legal requirements

Assessment: a written response to a series of essay-style questions which may require a professional discussion with your assessor.

WL43: Advanced principles and concepts for fire risk assessment

Undertaken as a 4-day online tutor-led course, this module builds on your knowledge of fire risk assessment including:

  • Building designation and risk profiling
  • Fire and smoke dynamics
  • Fire suppression and firefighting

Assessment requires post-course work on our online platform to continue to build your portfolio of evidence.

L44: Prepare to undertake fire risk assessments

Undertaken as a self-study module, you will be required to meet the following criteria:

  • Determine the necessary level of competence
  • Ensure the necessary level of resource
  • Ensure that responsibilities are understood and agreed

L45: Undertake and report on fire risk assessments for all buildings (except complex buildings)

You will be required to complete a minimum of 3 fire risk assessments over a variety of building types and provide the specified evidence to achieve this unit.

Assessment

You will be required to complete a portfolio of evidence consisting of self-study and practical examples of work. You will be required to complete a minimum of 3 fire risk assessments and provide the specified additional evidence to achieve this qualification. The total qualification time for this certificate is 470 hours.

This course is suitable for employees and consultants who intend to carry out fire risk assessments.
