This 5-day online tutor-led course provides learners with the knowledge required of a competent fire risk assessor as defined by UK Government’s Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, The Fire (Scotland) Act 2005, The Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006, The Fire and Rescue Services (Northern Ireland) Order 2006, and The Fire Safety Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2010. It is suitable for those who carry out or work with fire risk assessments in their own workplace, and for low-risk premises.

Learning outcomes

The course will provide learners with an understanding of the fundamental principles and concepts that underpin the practice of fire risk assessment in respect of:

  • the legal framework in the UK and the responsibilities and obligations imposed
  • the mitigating or contributing factors of building construction on the risks posed from fire
  • the nature of fire, fire growth, and identification of fire hazards
  • approaches to ensuring fire safety in respect of protecting those particularly at risk.

Duration

  • Must be completed within 1 month.

  • Fire Protection Association (FPA) Certificate
  • 29 Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM) CPD hours
  • ABBE Unit Certification D/617/7202 Fundamental Principles and Concepts for Fire Risk Assessment

Assessment

This course is undertaken as a 5-day tutor-led course involving individual and group tutor-led exercises to evidence your learning. The post course assessment is through a written response to a series of essay-style questions within 4 weeks of undertaking the course.

This course is suitable for those who carry out or work with fire risk assessments in their own workplace and buildings determined by their employer for which there is suitable quality assurance and management supervision in place. This may include:

  • Fire risk assessors
  • Property or facility managers
  • Building safety managers
  • Health and safety managers.
