NAFDI approve FPA fire door inspection course

The Fire Protection Association is pleased to announce that the  Level 3 Award Fire Door Inspection course has been recognised by the National Association of Fire Door Inspectors (NAFDI), the UK’s national fire door inspection organisation.

The dedicated 3-day FPA course guides trainees through the types, functions, and importance of a variety of fire doors, enabling them to understand industry standard inspection procedures and demonstrate the correct methods for carrying out a fire door inspection.

NAFDI has approved this course as both a competency course and an advanced training course. Those with FPA Level 3 Certification can apply for membership with NAFDI and also request certification from the recognised body at a cost.

NAFDI said: “We are proud to announce that the FPA fire door inspection course has now been recognised by us. Any attendees of the full FPA level 3 certified fire door inspection course can now apply for NAFDI membership subject to meeting all other criteria.”

The news follows an auditing session carried out by a NAFDI official of the FPA’s training on fire door inspections. Feedback shared by the organisation highlighted the comprehensive nature of the course’s key topics, which ensures that participants “gain a thorough understanding of fire door principles and safety measures”.

Praise was also given for the course’s structured test focusing on inspection procedures, whereby participants are “evaluated on their ability to identify critical components, assess door functionality, and recognise potential issues. The practical aspects of the inspection process focuses on requiring hands-on application of knowledge to simulate real-world scenarios.”

NAFDI concluded the FPA course was “thorough enough to be accepted on NAFDI as an advanced training course, allowing attendees to be added to the directory and offer NAFDI certification for their reports This will be subject to applicants also having company insurance and DBS checks in place.

Head of Training at the FPA, Kelly Donoghue said: “We are delighted to partner with NAFDI, with a common purpose of continuous improvement to the fire door inspection standards. Now our Fire Door Inspection Course has been approved as a competency course (where certification holders can be added to the NAFDI directory) and as an advanced training course (where practitioners can request a NAFDI certification directly through NAFDI), it provides additional evidence to the public when securing services.
