FPA appoints David Williams as new FPA Chair

The FPA is pleased to announce the appointment of David Williams as FPA Chair.

Following a recent decision by John Smeaton to retire from the position after a 4.5 year tenure, David’s appointment was recommended by the FPA Nominations Committee with unanimous support from the FPA Board.

David is an experienced executive and non-executive director with over 30 years’ experience in insurance, having formerly held the position of Managing Director of Claims, Underwriting and Technical Services with AXA Insurance UK. David is a member of the FPA Board and between 2011-2022 was Chair of RISCAuthority, an annually funded research scheme which conducts research on behalf of the insurance sector and is administered by the FPA.

Howard Passey, Deputy Managing Director of the FPA commented: "As an existing Board member, David understands our business and is committed to our long-term vision as the UK’s national fire safety organisation. His varied and thorough knowledge will ensure we continue to progress our objectives and initiatives, proactively addressing the causes of the industry whilst upholding our values. I would like to thank John for his extensive support and direction during both his tenure as Chair, and wider association with the FPA over the last 20 years."

David added: "I am excited to be assuming the role of FPA Chair and hope to use my experience and knowledge of both the FPA and RISCAuthority to contribute strong leadership and guidance.

"The FPA’s heritage lies in sharing fire safety messages and information to government, businesses, members, and the wider public and, along with the rest of the Board, I look forward to ensuring the association remains at the forefront of providing advice and guidance, training, testing, and risk surveying in the field of fire protection. I would also like to thank John for his fantastic work over the years."
