Building Risk Evaluation Tool

The Building Risk Evaluation Tool (BRET) assists in performing a simple survey of a building’s construction and occupancy features and appraise these against the insurer Essential Principles for fire, flood, escape of water, and resilience. This toolkit enables high level identification of the general strengths and weaknesses of a building’s design against material damage and associated business interruption exposures.

It is intended to provide an easy-to-follow insight into how the use, design, and construction material choices can influence the resilience of a building to the challenges presented by fire and water exposure in terms of property protection, business resilience, and insurability. BRET may also provide benefit to designers during the initial development stages looking to ensure the end result will meet the resilience expectations of the occupier and be insurable, and to insurers triaging new prospects.
