The ideal course for fire risk assessors responsible for more complex premises

This course will strengthen and refresh your existing knowledge and understanding of fire risk assessment and assist with the correct interpretation of guidance in order to achieve fire safety solutions that are required to ensure minimum life standards are achieved, reasonably practicable to implement and meet statutory requirements.  Hugely interactive in its approach, course content reflects knowledge requirements identified by the Fire Risk Assessment Competency Council and the National Occupational Standards in Fire Safety.

On completion of the course delegates will: 
  • have a greater understanding of the active and passive fire safety measures that are available
  • have a greater understanding of the effectiveness and limitations of new and existing fire safety measures and the cost and benefit of upgrading or replacing existing measures
  • be able to differentiate between matters that are required to ensure statutory compliance and additional measures that would reduce the risk to property and business
  • have an improved ability to apply relevant guidance documents in order to determine appropriate fire safety solutions.
  • have an understanding of human behaviour in a range of fire situations.

This course is aimed at building managers, owners, assessors and enforcing authorities who are required to determine the fire safety measures required in complex premises by interpretation of the guidance available.
Delegates should have previously attended appropriate courses that have provided an underpinning knowledge of fire safety management.

  • CFOA guidance; fire safety management; co-operation and co-ordination in multi-occupied buildings, human behaviour, GEEPS, PEEPS.
  • fire warning systems.
  • legal requirements, advantages, disadvantages and limitations of specific systems; cost implications
  • passive fire safety measures
  • fire doors; protected stairways and corridors
  • active fire safety measures
  • suppression systems and some control costs, benefits
  • guidance documents
  • CLG, ADB, LACORS & BS9999 application, interpretation, limitations, contradictions and errors
  • general fire precautions in complex premises
  • compartmentation requirements, basements and commercial premises; means of escape
  • FPA Advanced Fire Safety Management
  • V03 CFPA Europe Diploma in Fire Prevention - Technical Cycle
