Identifying and recognising competence

"The Fire Protection Association (FPA) has introduced a Hot Work Passport scheme to enhance the level of competence of those involved in work with the potential to produce ignition sources. The Passport Scheme was developed in response to calls from industry for a national benchmark of fire safety knowledge. Over 2,850 Hot Work Passports have been issued to date. ... Upon attendance at this course, and successful completion of a short assessment, you will be awarded a personalised Hot Work Passport, valid for 5 years.
You will develop knowledge and understanding of:
  • The importance of fire prevention and your own responsibility when performing dangerous work
  • Systematic working and fire prevention methods underpinned by the relevant legislation and regulations
  • FPA Hot Work Passport valid for 5 years 
  • CFPA Europe Certificate in Hot Works
  • This course has been awarded 6 IFE CPD hours

C03 Hot Work Passport
This course is designed for those supervisors and operatives who carry out fire risk assessments in order to complete hot work permits on construction sites, refurbishment projects and during maintenance work. The Passport is an indication to employers and clients that you have demonstrated a level of knowledge and understanding of fire safety that will contribute to safe and effective hot work activities on any structure, building, equipment or area where construction, alteration or maintenance is taking place.
Course content will include:
  • Legislative requirements.
  • Principles of fire risk assessment.
  • Fire science - understanding fire.
  • Structures and materials - understanding fire protection.
  • The hot work management cycle.
  • Hot work equipment fire hazards.
  • Preparing to carry out hot work.
  • Safety precautions during and after hot work.
  • Action in the event of fire.
