Have you recently started working in the fire safety sector and want to get a good grounding in the foundations of passive fire protection? Or perhaps you are a risk assessor wanting to get an insight into the passive fire protection that is built into the structure of your buildings. This course introduces the role of passive fire protection within a building structure, explores how it stops fire spread, and examines good and bad practice examples. The one-day foundation can be followed by further modules in specific passive fire protection products to further your knowledge.

Learning outcomes

  • outline the legislations and guidance for passive fire protection installations
  • understand fire, how it spreads, and how passive fire protection can be used to ensure the safety of buildings and occupants
  • Understand compartmentation within building design, and what that means in terms of passive fire protection
  • Explore a variety of passive fire stopping products available
  • identify some common problems and issues caused by building alterations and potential solutions
