FPA Apprenticeships

Combining work with training and study

At the FPA we recognise the value of recruiting young ambitious people with limited work experience and developing them to become qualified fire safety professionals. Our apprenticeship pathways combine the opportunity to learn on the job with a structured training programme. We support our apprentices across their entire learning journey to gain hands-on experience in the workplace.

Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship

Over 21 months made up of 20% study time and 80% work time, our laboratory apprentices are based at our Fire Testing Laboratory in Blockley and learn through a flexible learning model including:

  • Online self-paced learning
  • 1-1 coaching
  • Reading and research
  • Workplace activities and projects. 

The programme is split into modules focusing on the specific knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to become a Level 3 qualified Materials Testing Technician with each module lasting 10 weeks:

  • Health and safety
  • Laboratory information management system         and document control
  • Communication
  • Testing and analysis
  • Laboratory practice and housekeeping 
  • Quality procedures 
  • Continuous professional development 
  • Problem solving and error reporting.

On successful completion of the end point assessment, apprentices will be listed on the nationally recognised Register of Science Technicians (RSCiTech).
 

Fire Safety Trainer Apprenticeship

The Level 5 Learning and Skills Teacher apprenticeship is an 18 month qualification based on national occupational standards with 20% study time and 80% work time. Apprentices are based at our main office at Moreton in Marsh, alongside the expectation of delivering our courses and qualifications nationally. The apprenticeship is delivered through a blended learning model including:

  • Online self-paced learning
  • 1-1 coaching
  • Portfolio of evidence
  • Seminars and webinars
  • Professional discussion and end point assessment.

There are four mandatory modules, totalling 75 credits, that make up the core of this qualification:

  • Unit 1 – Teaching, learning and assessment in education and training
  • Unit 2 – Developing teaching, learning and assessment in education and training
  • Unit 3 – Principles and models in education and training
  • Unit 4 – Wider professional practice and development in education and training.
