RISCAuthority

Structure and Governance

Executive Committee

The RISCAuthority Executive Committee is responsible for the setting of high-level strategic scheme objectives and budget scrutiny. The committee comprises representation from the five major contributors to the scheme, two representatives of the other remaining members, ABI, the Head of RISCAuthority, and the RISCAuthority Operations Manager.

Members’ Forum

The RISCAuthority Members’ Forum approves programmes of work, and reviews progress and exploitation paths. It comprises representation from the entire membership and provides both the communication and remit guidance to properly support the Working Groups in the specification and conduct of work relevant to RISCAuthority members.

Working Groups

The RISCAuthority working group structure ensures effort remains focused on insurer benefit and that outputs are meaningful to their intended audience. Formed from experts within the membership and augmented by the FPA and externally commissioned consultants, the Working Groups are:

Business Continuity

Convenor: Don Oakley

The Business Continuity Group develops and oversees all work pertaining to Business Continuity Management (BCM), raising awareness of the subject, particularly within the SME environment, and develops, publishes and maintains best practice guidelines and tools in relation to BCM systems and techniques.

Passive

Convenor: Paul Saunders

The Passive Group manages and implements insurers’ strategic policies in respect of the passive fire protection of buildings. The group produces guidance, information, and advice for insurers, building designers, and occupiers on achieving best practice in passive fire protection.

Risk Control

Convenor: Dave Smith

The Risk Control Group is focused on the identification of existing and emerging risks and oversees and directs the development of loss prevention guidance for industry and commerce. It also works to monitor and address related issues that may affect loss experience.

Security

Convenor: Don Oakley

The Security Group’s remit is to research crime trends and security solutions, publish bulletins and best practice guidelines, and monitor security issues likely to impact insurers.

Sprinkler Rules

Convenor: Dale Kinnersley

The Sprinkler Rules Group reviews, monitors, tests and researches against current standards, mostly BS EN 12845, incorporating robust best practice guidelines (Technical Bulletins) with the practical assistance of sprinkler risk insurers for property protection.

Suppression and Detection

Convenor: Dale Kinnersley

The Suppression and Detection Group reviews, monitors, and researches the latest suppression and detection technologies including watermist, gaseous suppression, oxygen reduction systems and review hybrid systems. The development of system performance profiles and system questionnaires enable insurer confidence in the product selection of suitable technology for each risk.
