Residential tower in Dubai evacuated after large fire breaks out

A high-rise building in Dubai Marina was evacuated after a fire broke out on the upper floors

Home to more than 3,800 residents, the blaze at the 67-storey Marina Pinnacle Tower is understood to have broken out on the evening of Friday 13 June. Emergency services were alerted to the incident, with the Dubai Media Office (DMO) confirming that Dubai Civil Defence teams were “actively working to bring the fire incident in the Marina area under control”.

Offering live updates of the incident on X (formerly Twitter), DMO later confirmed that specialised teams were able to evacuate the building’s 764 apartments, with 3,820 residents being led to safety. Ambulance teams and medical staff were also on hand to offer medical support to residents, and no injuries were reported.

Firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze within six hours. Amidst reports of a large amount of smoke surrounding the high-rise, DMO stated: “Following the containment of the fire and the safe evacuation of all residents, the smoke currently visible at the site is due to ongoing cooling operations as part of the firefighting process. Control measures remain in place, and the situation is fully managed by the firefighting teams.”

The relevant authorities coordinated with the building’s developers to provide temporary housing to the affected residents. As reported by the Khaleej Times, residents were housed across three buildings. Affected residents were initially given a five-day stay, but an official from the Bunat Al Mustaqbil Owners Association, which manages Marina Pinnacle Tower, confirmed that this had been extended until further notice.

According to Gulf News, the association has been in contact with the building’s insurance company to “complete the necessary procedures in such cases”.

As reported by IFSJ, authorities in Dubai have not yet disclosed the cause of the high-rise fire.
