Regulator seeks chair to lead steering group

The Building Safety Regulator (BSR) is seeking an independent chair to join its Building Advisory Committee (BAC) to help it meet its aims and objectives regarding its building functions

Established under the Building Safety Act 2022 (BSA), the BSR’s responsibility is to “facilitate improvement in the standard and safety of all buildings”. The Act enables the regulator to set up a committee that can “give advice and information solely to the BSR” and aid it in “assisting and encouraging those concerned with matters relevant to its building functions”.

As such, the BAC comprises a high-level steering group that oversees several subgroups, each represented by stakeholders from across the sector. Its purpose is to assist the regulator in addressing new and emerging issues, trends, and innovations across the built environment; engaging with and providing leadership across industry; and driving and inspiring change.

Working with the BSR and its CEO, the independent chair will support the regulator’s strategic plans in accordance with the committee’s statutory remit. The role involves providing strategic leadership to the committee, ensuring advice shared with the regulator is impartial and evidence-based, and overseeing the delivery of the committee’s agreed objectives.

The regulator is seeking someone with proven experience of leading and developing policy in a regulatory or technical environment, excellent communication and influencing skills, evidence of sound judgement and decision making, and evidence of sound judgement and decision making.
