HOUSING MAINTENANCE provider Wates will undertake fire safety works, including retrofitting sprinklers and installing fire alarms, at three 18 storey flat blocks in the London borough.
Facilitate Magazine and FMJ reported on the deal signed between Barnet Council and the company, which will see Wates install sprinkler and fire alarm systems at three 18 storey residential high rises owned and maintained by Barnet Homes, the council’s housing provider. The £3m contract, set to take 46 weeks to undertake, also involves installing ‘extensive’ fire protection measures in communal areas, including in corridors and fitting both entrance and fire doors.
Gary Wilkinson, regional managing director of Wates Property Services, commented: ‘Our appointment by Barnet Homes reflects our growing reputation as leaders in fire safety and compliance. Since our work with Barnet Council commenced we have established a solid reputation as a trusted partner in the borough and we are working closely with the local community through a series of consultation engagement events.
‘Fire safety work is understandably urgent and sensitive for residents and above all things, we will ensure that they are kept informed and that disruption is kept to a minimum.’
