Crews called to major fire at Nottinghamshire waste site

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) respond to second fire this month at Colwick Industrial Estate

The alarm was raised in the early hours of Friday 30 August after a fire broke out at the Enva waste management site, with NFRS sending a total of eight appliances to the incident.

Pictures released by the service show large amounts of flame and smoke coming from the waste and impacting the surrounding building as firefighters tackle the blaze and contain it to the original site.

As reported by the Nottingham Post, the fire service issued a statement in the course of the incident saying it was working with neighbouring business to ensure safety precautions were in place. A spokesperson said: "We are aware that some of the surrounding businesses will start to open soon - we will be working with them throughout the day to ensure safety precautions are in place when they are operating."

Local people were also advised to keep clear of the area due to the amount of smoke being issued by the fire, which was brought under control by 7am, with damping down and monitoring activities continuing into the day.

NFRS had previously been called to a fire at the same industrial estate on Tuesday 13 August.

Investigations into the exact cause of this most recent incident are underway.
