A new Built Environment Competence Hub is to be launched in early 2026, offering industry professionals access to the latest competence frameworks, standards, and guidance
Managed by the British Standards Institution (BSI) in collaboration with the Industry Competence Steering Group (ICSG), the hub has been set up for professionals looking for guidance on competence in the construction and built environment industries.
The ICSG is a formal working group of the Industry Competence Committee (ICC), a statutory committee under the Building Safety Regulator (BSR). While the ICC works to deliver all competence-related functions as specified within the Building Safety Act 2022, the ICSG was established to enable culture change across the built environment in relation to competency.
Offering practical resources and the latest insights and guidance from the ICSG, BSI, and wider industry stakeholders, the hub aims to simplify the complexities of the competence landscape by making information accessible in a centralised space.
Once live, knowledge and resources will be tailored to specific industry roles and sectors, with the hub also providing a cross-industry view of how roles and duty holders connect and is open to those involved in the following sectors:
- Design
- Construction
- Construction products, including manufacture and supply
- In-use and building management
- Taking on duty holder roles in building safety legislation
- Professional and trade bodies
- Education, training, and research providers
- Regulators and oversight bodies
- Professional and trade bodies
- Others interested in competence.
Those who are registered will have the opportunity to be part of an active community – with newsletters, webinars, events, and case studies – and be able to engage directly with industry voices.
Officially launching on 19 January 2026, the hub is currently welcoming pre-registrations. Ealy access sign up is available here.
