Developed with the property sector fire safety group NSHFSG for those individuals who have responsibility for fire risk management in residential properties.  This course supports the development of skills, knowledge and understanding of fire safety practice in the residential properties sector.  Underpinned by the Skills for Justice National Occupational Standards (NOS) in Fire Safety.

C08 Fire Risk Management in Residential Properties

This course is suitable for staff and consultants who carry out fire risk assessment and determine fire safety provision in simple or complex residential properties. Simple residential properties are defined as those properties that are single use, three storeys or less and built after 1991.  Complex residential properties are defined as those properties that are mixed use, four storeys or more, and could be built at any time. They are also considered to be any residential block which is HMO or designed for specific client groups who could present particular fire risks generated by the client group e.g. Sheltered/Extra Care/Special Educational needs groups are considered to be complex.

  • Understand requirements for assessing fire risks  and protecting people from fire within residential properties
  • Understand processes and guidance relevant to fire risk assessment
  • Be able to evaluate fire hazards and risks
  • Be able to specify solutions to minimise risks from fire
  • Be able to confirm resources are available to manage fire risks
  • Understand legislative and organisational  requirements applicable to fire protection systems in residential properties
  • Understand procedures and processes for evaluative fire protection systems in residential properties
  • Be able to recommend options to support appropriate risk reduction measures, fire precautions and maintenance routines in residential properties
