FPA’s Technical Division experts are able to offer a comprehensive enquiry service supporting all aspects of fire and security.
Developments within the codes detailing how buildings must be built within the UK now encourage design innovation by the use of FSE rather than prescriptive codes. Although there for life-safety reasons, prescriptive codes also deliver business and property protection measures which benefit the insurer. FSE may not deliver these measures. FSE design submissions may be complex and the Verification Service provides the insurer with a means of appraising new designs, assessing the risks and making recommendations in respect of additional requirements.
On behalf of a group that now comprises insurers, brokers, and surveyors, the FPA’s Technical Division operates the InFiReS scheme for the advancement of risk management within the fire and security sectors. Funded by annual subscription, core insurer texts including the requirements for sprinkler installations, building design guides, and a plethora of Risk Control Documents to support the surveyor are produced and maintained. Extensive research programmes are also undertaken where information is lacking and proactive lobbying aims to aid convergence of insurer and government perspectives on loss control.
The Lead Office Overriding Committee scheme administers the underwriting of large commercial fire risks by co-insurance. The much improved web-based service offers up-to-date statements to lead and follow offices.
On behalf of insurers who wish to outsource their survey function or cope with periodic backlog, FPA offers a comprehensive and nationwide Survey Service through its network of 50+ surveyors. Having been drawn from the insurance sector, our surveyors can support work in many specialist surveying areas as well as more general undertakings.
