FPA wins fire contract with Falkirk Council

STARTING FROM 1 April this year, the Fire Protection Association (FPA) will be delivering a number of specially designed two-day fire risk assessment courses that will equip premises managers in Falkirk Council to fulfil their fire risk assessment responsibilities.

The course content will be adapted to address the operational risks that will be present in a range of council workplaces, including offices, schools, care homes, depots and workshops.

The courses will cover a number of key areas, including:

• Part 3 of the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006
• the responsibilities of premises managers
• carrying out fire risk assessments and reviews
• fire risk management systems
• the role of architects and facility officers, and corporate health and safety

Commenting on the new contract, FPA associate director for training, Sue Tyley, said: ‘I am delighted the FPA has been chosen as the preferred training partner for Falkirk Council. It builds on the substantial work and relationships we have already established in Scotland through undertaking similar activities for organisations such as West Lothian Council and the Scottish Government. The courses will develop the confidence and ability of individuals to carry out fire risk assessments on a variety of premises and to comply with current fire legislation’.
